Competition #3 BIRCH LAKE - We will require boats to do a Loch Style Competition. Please bring a boat and please let me know if you can. 12-14 foot aluminium's are the preferred boats with drogues. We will also allow pontoon Boats if not enough Aluminum Boats are available for this comp. There is opening camping at Birch Lake. The location is very nice with a great setting for kids to run around and play in a large open field. Birch Lake holds Brown's, Brookies, and Rainbows. There is a multi species management program in place on this beautiful lake. Travel 3 km west of Caroline, Alberta on Hiway #54 to Burnstick Lake turn off 9watch for signs), then 12 km south to oil road that heads west (watch for sign). This road leads into the lake (stay left on road). Hand launch trail 930 meters0 parking and toilet (out house at lake).

Compliments of Todd Oishi's website on Loch Style fishing. (please read this important information.

Competition # 3 –Birch Lake June 28, 2014

First number is total points for fish <10 inches = 1 point, second number is total points for fish over >10 inches = 2 points. No fish caught over 20 inches. > 20 inch fish = 3 points.

Ryan Cook               34+1 = 36
Jim Trewin              12 +5 = 22
Jason Doucette       59+1 =61 Gold
Justin Hardy     11 +23 =57 Silver
Christof Dialxocic     9 +3 =15
Gary Hanke        20+1 = 22
Dean Kolody       21+14 = 49 Bronze

Here are the points for Comp # 3 at Birch Lake. Thank you to everyone for taking the time on a long weekend to attend this competition. It was great fun and the fishing for a multi species lake was interesting and tactical to say the least. Brookies definitely made the day for most. As this lake matures I can see it become a very high quality lake for Browns, Brookies and Rainbows.

Huge fish numbers guys!  How long did you fish?

Congrats to the Flytastic team members again!

Two 3 hour sessions, some of us may have been guilty of stockie bashing ;). My wife and I did the math and broke it down to 1 fish every 6 minutes for 6 hours. Can't say this enough, you have to stay in shape to do this game well. Had fun fishing with Ryan Cook in the boat.
Wishing you a memorable's day fishing.

That's putting the hurt on some fish!  I don't think I can count that high!  I'd have trouble keeping score...  lol.

Nicely done.  Sounds like a fun venue.  Were there many doubles or triples even?

Dean had three doubles, Ryan landed one double, I got a couple, and I think Gary hit a triple. I can honestly say I have never before this day caught a brown/brookie double before. or that many fish in session. Good training for Quebec ;).

I wasted my first 1.5 hours in the morning session looking around at different locations. The last hour I was at the island and both points of the island had two separate groups of Brookies. I would work one group for 20 minutes and then the other for twenty minutes. This went back and forth until the morning session was over. I had 2 doubles back to back a triple and then I lost fish on the next two doubles. They went nuts and so did I....lol. The afternoon session for me had two boats move in and park on top of the one point and the other point was fished hard by these two boats before we got started. So I went looking again in a little deeper water. I found them again but they takes were not as hard or as aggressive as the morning. No Browns for me but I did get a few rainbows out i open water and around deeper weedbeds.
