I am very pleased to announce that Carihi Secondary School, in Campbell River, has registered 6 members of their fly fishing club for this year's Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Championship!

UPDATE FOR JANUARY 30, 2019:

VENUES:

The venues for the 2019 Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Championship have been selected. These venues were selected in order to ensure an enjoyable angling experience is had by all participants, volunteers, and spectators.

Please note that all competition venues are closed to fishing as of April 8, 2019 for all competitors and their agents and fishing buddies.

COMPETITION VENUES:
Stave River (Maple Ridge side of the river)
Stave River (Mission side of the river)
Mike Lake
Rolley Lake

OPENING CEREMONIES and COMPETITION STAGING AREA:
Hatch Match'r Fly & Tackle
22935 Lougheed Hwy, Maple Ridge B.C.

CLOSING CEREMONIES:
The Ranch Pub & Grill at the Maple Ridge Equestrian Center
21973 132nd Avenue, Maple Ridge, B.C.

TEAMS:
Competitors will compete as teams of 4 competitors. Individuals will be assigned to a team, but competitors are free to build their own teams if they choose. Teams will work together and share their intel and information that they gather during the championship in order to ensure the best possible result for their team.

Competitors and teams will be assessed for their ability to function as team players and sportsmanship, by the coaches of the Canadian Youth National Team that will be attending this event.

There will be 4 letter groups, which will be drawn at the Competitors Meeting on Friday, April 26, 2019 with 6 competitors fishing in each group. This will result in a total of 6 competitors fishing on each venue during all 4 sessions.

AWARDS AND MEDALS:
Medals will be awarded to the top three teams and individuals, and the "Top Rod Trophy" to the 1st Place Individual of this championship.

Update for March 14, 2019:

I am trying to find volunteers with minivans to shuttle the 5 or 6 competitors in each group to and from the venues on both competition days. Drivers will be free to stay and watch the sessions and cheer on the competitors.

We currently have 18 youths registered for the 2019 Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Championship and are looking for 6 more Canadian youths between the age of 13 to 18 to fill the roster for this fun and informative event. No previous competition experience necessary, as there will be coach staff and mentors available to help you prepare.

We are also looking for more volunteers, so please consider registering as a competitor or volunteer if you'd like to participate or help at this event. Contact Todd Oishi at: toishis@gmail.com for more information or to register for this event.
