About Me

I live on a small, hobby farm that's located within the city of Maple Ridge, British Columbia (30 minutes east of Vancouver), where my wife and I have raised chickens, quail, guinea fowl, turkeys, ducks, sheep, goats, miniature horses, llamas, dogs, cats, trout, and 4 children. I own and manage an autobody and collision repair shop that's also located in Maple Ridge.

Throughout the year I spend a lot of my free time exploring and fly fishing our province's pristine rivers and lakes. I've fished the rivers and stillwaters of fourteen countries and six Canadian Provinces for several species of trout, salmon, char, whitefish, grayling and wide variety of other species of fish.

The Sport of Competitive Fly Fishing:
I am actively involved in the sport of competitive fly fishing, serving as a competitor, coach, promoter, and organizer. I started fly fishing in 1994 and entered my first "formal" fly fishing tournament in 2002 and first national championship in 2005. It has been a great adventure and journey that has provided me with the opportunity to meet some extraordinary fly fishers, coaches, teammates, and people that I am fortunate enough to call friends!

I am an eight-time Gold Medalist at the Canadian National Fly Fishing Championships (individual and team combined), having twice earned the individual title of National Champion (2005 and 2016) and 2 Individual Bronze Medals (2009 and 2010); 6 Team Gold Medals (2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2016); and 2 Team Bronze Medals (2011 & 2017) at the 10 Canadian National Championships that I've attended during my competitive fly fishing career (a grand total of 12 individual and team medals at 10 NFFCs).

On the international scene, as a member of Team Emerger, I won 2 Team Gold Medals at back-to-back America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournaments (2011 and 2012). I have represented Canada as a member of our National Fly Fishing Team at 7 World Fly Fishing Championships; 3 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships; 3 America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournaments; and 2 United States National Fly Fishing Championships.

The greatest achievement of my international competitive fly fishing career was being a part of the gold-medal-winning Canadian National Fly Fishing Team at the 2016 Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship that brought home Team Canada's first-ever international team medal... and a gold medal at that!

For the past 7 years I've proudly served as the head coach for the Western Division of the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team. My coaching staff and I have been responsible for coaching and mentoring youths from British Columbia and have sent 9 youths from our region to compete and represent Canada at 5 Youth World Fly Fishing Championships, several North American Loch-Style Fly Fishing Championships, and the America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament.

I've developed a series of fly fishing seminars that I present free of charge for those that are willing to listen and wish to learn more about our sport. In these seminars I share many of the highly-effective fly patterns, techniques, and tactics that have been shared with me during my career as a competitive fly fisher and member of our national fly fishing teams.

My ongoing quest for knowledge and deep-rooted passion for fly fishing have provided a rare and unique opportunity for me to meet some exceptional anglers and mentors, as well as a reason to travel to some truly special and remarkable places that I would have otherwise only dreamed of visiting perhaps one day somewhere in the distant future...

For me, the quality of a trout is not measured in inches or pounds, but rather by the journey and circumstances that allowed our paths to cross...
