Hello from Langley, BC
« on: March 28, 2012, 12:41:32 AM »
So, as you can see I'm Wayne and I live in Langley, BC. I'm also known as Birdyblaster on several other forums. Been fishing for almost 40 years, been fly fishing over 30 of those. I have been a very eclectic fisherman, not turning my nose up at at any legal style at all- yes including bait and bottom bouncing (gasp, yes the dreaded flossing to some).

Last year I made a personal choice to switch to fly fishing only. Nothing wrong with the other styles as long as it's legal, just get WAY more enjoyment with my limited time on the water with a flyrod in my hand. I'm still a single-hander, none of that spey stuff for me.

I love to fish rivers, lakes, saltwater and beaches with the long rod. One day I'll get down south for some fancy stuff like tarpon, bones, tuna etc. I have just as much fun catching 8" crappies on the fly as I do hooking up to Tyee Spring salmon and everything in between, I am NOT a fish snob.

I spent 12 years as a guide at a fly-in salmon lodge on the North Coast, I was an assistant guide on the Fraser River for a short time (LOVE sturgeon), I've worked in a hatchery and I even spent a full year working on a salmon farm just to see for myself what is up with them. (they are worse than you think, I promise you!) I have helped at least a dozen kids get excited about fishing and have introduced quite a few adults to the sport as well. I believe they all are still fishing.

I also very much enjoy tying flies and although I have been doing it a long time I'm still all thumbs with it- but It's fun and rewarding.

Looking forward to this forum and not getting slammed if I have an opinion that differs from somebody else.
